Empowering Communities
Through Authentic African Stories

Our Story: From Silence to Amplification

The story behind African Network Media Australia is rooted in passion, resilience, and a shared vision to bring Africa closer to Australia.

Our founder, Magdalene “Maggie” Konneh, recognized a critical gap in mainstream media: the vibrant, nuanced, and triumphant stories of the African diaspora were largely going untold. Having arrived in Australia as a sports journalist seeking asylum from Sierra Leone due to her fierce anti-FGM advocacy, Maggie experienced firsthand the challenges of displacement and the vital need for true representation.

ANMA was born out of that necessity. We are a platform where unique insights from diverse African backgrounds converge to foster mutual understanding and connection. From local Sierra Leone diaspora news to national conversations on refugee stories in Australia, we showcase the ultimate strength, culture, and resilience of African life down under.
